View on Aging

George Carlin Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions. "How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead. "How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!! But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed? You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHIN

Beloved one

I think of you, when I see the sun's shimmer Gleaming from the sea. I think of you, when the moon's glimmer Is reflected in the springs. I see you, when on the distant road The dust rises, In deep night, when on the narrow bridge The traveler trembles. I hear you, when with a dull roar The wave surges In the quiet grove I often go to listen When all is silent I am with you, however far away you may be, You are next to me! The sun is setting, soon the stars will shine upon me If only you were here! Poem of Goethe in German, translated to English by Hyde Flippo

Chicken soup for soul

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one-ton truck refused to start. in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss. While I drove him home, he sat Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier. "Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for s ure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children... So I j

Yes, there is pleasurable feeling but it is also included in suffering as it is impermanent. With metta, Lalith On Feb 2, 2008 3:17 PM, Leo wrote: Hi

Do you need me? I am there You cannot see me, yet I am the light you see by You cannot hear me, yet I speak through your voice You cannot feel me, yet I am the power at work in your hands. I am at work, though you do not understand my ways I am at work, though you do not understand my works I am not strange visions. I am not mysteries. Only in absolute stillness, beyoung self, can you know Me as I am, and then but as a feeling and a faith. Yet I am here. Yet I am hear. Yet I answer. When you need me, I am there Even if you deny me, I am there Even when you feel most alone, I am there Even in your fears, I am there Even in your pain, I am there I am there when you pray and when you do not pray I am in you and you are in me Only in your mind can you feel separate from me, for only on your mind are the mists of "yours" and "mine" Yet only with yur mind can you know me and experience me. Empty your heart of empty fears. When you get yourself out of the way, I am there.

If you go away

"If You Go Away" is a song in English based upon the French song "Ne Me Quitte Pas" (1959), written by Jacques Brel. The English lyrics were written by Rod McKuen as part of a larger project to translate Brel's work. "If You Go Away" is considered a pop standard and has been recorded by many artists, including Greta Keller, for whom some say McKuen wrote the lyrics [1]. Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Marc Almond, Emilíana Torrini, Neil Diamond, Scott Walker, Farhad Mehrad, Dusty Springfield, Violetta Villas and Cyndi Lauper have also recorded versions of it, with several of the numerous versions becoming hits and achieving success on the charts. If you go away - Lyric by Rod McKuen If you go away, on this summers day Then you might as well take the sun away All the birds that flew in the summer sky When our love was new and our hearts were high When the day was young and the night was long And the moon stood still for the night bir

Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves was originally a 1945 French song "Les Feuilles Mortes" (literally "Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, English lyrics were written in 1947 by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer. With Mercer's exquisite lyrics the song became even more beautiful, it not only conveyed it's message of sadness and longing, but painted a story with the colors of Autumn. The Autumn

Go, sit upon the lofty hill, And turn your eyes around, Where waving woods and waters wild Do hymn an autumn sound. The summer sun is faint on them -- The summer flowers depart -- Sit still -- as all transform'd to stone, Except your musing heart. How there you sat in summer-time, May yet be in your mind; And how you heard the green woods sing Beneath the freshening wind. Though the same wind now blows around, You would its blast recall; For every breath that stirs the trees, Doth cause a leaf to fall. Oh! like that wind, is all the mirth That flesh and dust impart: We cannot bear its visitings, When change is on the heart. Gay words and jests may make us smile, When Sorrow is asleep; But other things must make us smile, When Sorrow bids us weep! The dearest hands that clasp our hands, -- Their presence may be o'er; The dearest voice that meets our ear, That tone may come no more! Youth fades; and then, the joys of youth, Which once refresh'

The Power of a Hug

Image
Here is an article I wanted to share from http://www.crystalinks.com Nothing says it quite like a hug! It is a universal symbol. Healing is sometimes about simply having someone hold you in their arms and feeling their love - caring - and compassion.... knowing there is someone there who shares your journey and will be there for you. To many souls - reality is a lonely, painful experience - with nowhere to turn. A hug is a way to share both good and bad times with others. A hug can create a connection that one cannot express in words. A hug is not affected by age, race, or anything that separates human experience. A hug can say, "I love you. You are special to me. I see your soul and you are beautiful to me." Even a small hug generally makes everyone feel good. A hug can make one feel safe and secure. It can lift our spirits and make us smile. Some people are not comfortable with the physical embrace - yet a quick hug can go a long way. A hug is meant for

Hello Vietnam

Tell me all about this name, that is difficult to say. It was given me the day I was born. Want to know about the stories of the empire of old. My eyes say more of me than what you dare to say. All I know of you is all the sights of war. A film by Coppola, the helicopter's roar. One day I'll touch your soil. One day I'll finally know my soul. One day I'll come to you. To say hello... Vietnam. Tell me all about my colour, my hair and my little feet That have carried me every mile of the way. Want to see your house, your streets. Show me all I do not know. Wooden sampans, floating markets, light of gold. All I know of you is the sights of war. A film by Coppola, the helicopter's roar. One day I'll touch your soil. One day I'll finally know my soul. One day I'll come to you. To say hello... Vietnam. And Buddha’s made of stone watch over me My dreams they lead me through the fields of rice In prayer, in the light…I see my kin I touch my tree, my roots,my beg
