Thesis: Although dentists have hailed the benefits of fluoride for years, fluoride is actually extremely toxic and hazardous to humans, causing both cancer and birth defects, therefore counties should discontinue the accepted practice of adding fluoride to county drinking water supplies.
They Say: What conversation is currently taking place? Dentists argue that fluoride is beneficial, some scientists argue that fluoride has been purposefully added to our water supply to “dumb down” society overtime, while others simply argue that fluoride, while strengthening our teeth, is inadvertently killing millions of Americans each year.
I Say: While I agree that fluoride benefits our teeth, the harm outweighs any of these potential benefits. Fluoride causes cancer, birth defects, and is in general toxic to the human body.
Main point 1: Cancer: paragraph about the high risk of cancer associated with fluoride, along with facts, figures, quotes, and statistics.
Main point 2: Birth defects: paragraph about birth defects caused by fluoride, along with facts, figures, quotes, and statistics.
Main point 3: Toxicity: paragraph about the toxicity of fluoride, along with facts, figures, quotes, and statistics.
Naysayer: Some say that fluoride is not what causes cancer in our drinking water; they argue that pollutants and chemicals are the true culprits. While these pose threats to our health as well, it is the fluoride that is specifically added to our drinking water by county officials that is causing so much harm to humans. A study conducted by Duke University found that city water in Greensboro, North Carolina that was untainted by outside chemicals, yet fluoridated, caused more instances of cancer over a ten year period than city water (also from Greensboro, North Carolina) that had both fluoride and chemicals.
Conclusion: why this change should take place immediately, what specifically needs to be done, what will happen if this continues, etc.
