Steve the Dog
Steve the Dog loves to go to
the Dog Park. As he is lying in his bed and dreaming, he hears his friend Wayne
pick up his set of keys. His ears perk up, he yawns happily and he wonders if
he will get to go for a ride and go to his favorite place, The Dog Park.
As he gets up from his
slumber, he stretches from his head to his slightly curved tail. As he lifts
his tail and lowers his head to point to his friend, Wayne He is smiling,
hoping to be able to tell if he is going for a ride. He watches Wayne and sees
that he is grabbing the leash from the wall. He is going! He is going! He is so
excited he begins to jump in circles and spins round and round. Faster and
faster he goes, until Wayne puts his leash on his collar. He is wide awake and
ready to go see his friends.
As he runs to the car, he can
barely stop from smiling. He loves to ride in the car because he can see all
the cars going by and people walking down the street. Steve loves to be around
people. He loves to be petted, walked or to have someone to play with. As Steve
barks playfully, the car is bouncing up and down. He is getting more excited as
he gets closer and closer to the park. He sees the gas station. He sees the car
dealer. He is so close! He just knows it! Steve spots the gates to the park. He
begins to howl with anticipation. He knows he is only a few minutes a way from
seeing his friends and possibly making new ones. As Wayne pulls the car over to
the entrance to the Dog Park, Steve presses his face to the backseat window. He
can see his friends chasing balls, wrestling with each other and being chased
around the park. Wayne walks over to put his leash on and Steve goes running to
the gate. He jumps up and down as Wayne laughs and tells him to wait a second
so he can let him in.
As Steve bounds through the
gate there are tails wagging, noses sniffing and playful barking. It seems that
all his dog friends are just as happy to see him as he is to be at the park. Steve
looks to Wayne as if to say “Can I go and run with my pals”. Wayne looks at
Steve and tells him to go run. Steve smiles, as only dogs can, and runs off to
play with his buddies.
After a while of running, chasing and getting dirty, Steve decides he wants to play ball. He comes over to Wayne, sits at his feet and gives a look as if to say, “Let’s play!” Wayne grabs Steve’s favorite ball out of his pocket and begins to play fetch with Steve. Fetch is Steve’s favorite game. He gets to run, jump and chase the ball. Steve is having so much fun. He could do this all day. He is jumping so high, it is like he can fly. His paws are moving quickly and he is running like the wind. He is showing off. Jumping up, catching it in his mouth, chasing it down and dropping it exactly at Wayne’s feet. He knows the others are watching and he loves to show them what he can do.
It is now starting to get
dark and it is now time to leave. As Steve is getting a drink of water, he says
goodbye to all his friends and lets them know he will be back soon. Wayne puts
Steve’s leash on and they head out of the gate. Steve gets back into the
backseat and starts to stare out the window and think about the great time he
had in the park today. Steve gets home and heads over to his bed. He is tired
and wants to relax. His eyes slowly close and his feet start to twitch, he
playfully barks under his breath and he is asleep and dreaming once again of
the Dog Park and the sound of the keys.
