The county council should allow the monument to stay where it is because taking it away
would be taking away a part of our history. The debate was on whether the monument of
Confederates soldiers should be removed because they represented a side that supported slavery.
Many would find this offensive, but many would be angered if that statue was put away. This
monument is historic and should be preserve for it showing a part of our past. It can be a
reminder and others can learn from it to study our history.
Many families and relatives of the confederates would feel saddened and disrespected if
the memorial was to be destroyed. While the monument does not represent a good time in
American history, it is still a part its past. It can be remembered as a significant battle that shaped
the U.S. The relatives of these soldiers would like to have the memorial to stay where it is
because it is important to their family. They would like to have the knowledge that their family
members were in a great war that resulted in how America is today.
The monument is a memorial that allows others to learn from it. People should be able to
look at it and learn to not let history repeats itself. Instead of it be taken down because it offends
some, people should use it as a learning experience to get a closer look of the past.If taken away,
the bad parts of history will be erased and there won’t be much to learn from. Everybody should
have an opportunity to look at the war from both sides.
One may believe that the memorial should be removed because it is offensive to slave,
but no matter what anyone says, it is still something that plays a huge role of America’s past that
helped with its future. It is a remembrance of the country’s past and should be recognized as an
achievement on overcoming a great struggle. People can use the monument to look at the war
and battle from both sides.
The county council should not feel the need to take i the monument away, but instead
appreciate the sacrifices the soldiers, Union and Confederates, made in order to help our country
obtain freedom. Everybody should have the chance to observe this monument and learn more
about the history of America, the country that overcame the struggle and freed the slaves.
